Previous Event Roundup

Sunday 28th November Breakfast at Jonesy’s Cafe Winkleigh

A warming and hearty breakfast was enjoyed by members followed by a run out to Dartington Glass at Torrington. Some bargains in glassware were snapped up and then it was off again for a scenic drive down to the Hartland Quay Hotel. The weather was bracing but the views across the bay were clear and then most of us stayed on for a light lunch. Pirate hats were available and readily worn by all. Afterwards people made their way home before darkness set in.

Tuesday 7th December Christmas Party at Toby Lympstone

On a Tuesday in December 18 SWOC members met up for a convivial Christmas meal at the Toby Inn at Lympstone. Whilst the group was much smaller than in previous years and Covid has a lot to answer for as regards that, a most enjoyable time was had by everyone there. The Toby staff had done their best to ensure the food was to a good standard, once or twice in the past some were disappointed with their fare, but on this occasion the three course meal went down well. The smaller number of people also allowed for the tables to be well spaced to help ensure we all stayed the appropriate distance apart. All agreed it was super to see each other again and we should do it again in the not too distant future. (author Dennis LeWorthy)

Sunday 19th December Breakfast at Pitstop Marsh Barton

Although the cold weather and current covid climate meant a smaller turnout than usual, an excellent breakfast was enjoyed by a few members at Pitstop for the last meet up of the year. Trevor held the Red Charity draw and Nita’s charity was drawn out. A cheque is on it’s way to the Devon Air Ambulance. A total of £157 has been donated since we started to meet up again in July of this year so thank you everyone for being so generous and thank you Trevor for stepping in after Kevin stood down (we still need more members to let us know their favoured charities which will then be entered into each draw).

Barry has also made a donation of £150 to Hospiscare. He has been quietly donating the monies he received for selling various MX-5 related items. Thank you Barry.

This year is coming to an end and there is a brand new beginning to look forward to in 2022. There will be new adventures to enjoy and new memories to make in the year ahead.

Merry Christmas to you and a Happy New Year.

Previous Events roundup

The Social & Meal on 2nd November was held at Toby Lympstone.

Thanks Pete for organising the event.

The Skittles Evening on 10th November was held at the Blue Ball Inn Sidford

Thanks Sue for organising the event and for the following narrative:

“Thanks to all those who attended the skittles evening. We all had a superb evening with great fun, laughter, good food and just a good get together. Due to the unexpected level of interest it soon became clear that we had to close the event to enable the skittles to be manageable and to comply with COVID spacing , so always good to book early.

Congratulations to Kev who won the coveted trophy but who now has to polish it everyday.”

The Breakfast Meet on 21st November was held at Pitstop, Marsh Barton

The weather was perfect on Sunday for breakfast and the run afterwards to the Otter Valley Ice cream and Field Kitchen (thank you Nita). 6 cars from the Western Group, led by Tim (joint co-ordinator) also joined us for breakfast.

Trevor held the Red Car Charity draw. Tony and Pat’s names were drawn out and their chosen charity of ChemoHero North Devon will receive £50. Thank you to everyone for continuing to donate your spare change when you attend our events.

MX-5 OWNERS CLUB

October 2021

As some of you will have noticed on the club website we have taken on the challenge of Co-ordinators for the South West Area MX-5OC again. We intend to send out a monthly email to all South West members on the mailing list so that you can keep up to date with club activities and we look forward to seeing you all again and also meeting new members.

Regular Monthly Meetings

Sunday mornings.

We are keen to start regular monthly meetings again on the 3rd Sunday of each month. We have spoken to Diane, who is the owner of both Pitstop Greendale and also Pitstop Exeter, but unfortunately it is uneconomical for Diane to re-open Pitstop Greendale just for us. We will therefore meet at Pitstop Exeter on a trial basis. Spacious inside with rear car parking as on street also. Same excellent breakfasts.

Tuesday evenings.

The quality of food at our monthly evening venue left a lot to be desired so let's mix it up a bit at some new venues. We would encourage members to organise evening social events at various locations and evenings around our South West area and, in time, we may be able to have a regular venue again. These will be purely social evenings as we have been advised and there will be no formal meetings. We will be visible at as many of these events as possible.

Diary Events
Now that restrictions for all events are being relaxed we hope that you are all ready to fill the diary again. There is a New Event Form on the South West Website (link above) and it is easy to use. If you have any problems please email us and we will be happy to post it on the website for you.
