14 January 2020 Newsletter

Last night was Murray and Anette’s last meeting as SW Area Co-ordinators. They thanked Sue and Neville for their much appreciated help in looking after the SW events and SW website and presented them with flowers and wine.

The award for the Andy Taylor cup for the most voted for event of 2019 was awarded to Steve and Trish for their Tiverton Barge trip and fish and chip evening.

Denise and Trevor were the runners up and were presented with two 30th edition MX5 commemorative mugs, perfect accompaniment to their car. Thank you both for your MX5 enthusiasm.

Murray and Anette thanked everyone for their support and help over the last 8 years and introduced us as the new SW Co-ordinators, wishing us a long and happy relationship with all SW members. We thanked them both for their support and encouragement.

Jim then spoke for everyone, emphasising that the success of the club was entirely down to Murray and Anette for the well attended monthly evening meetings and Pitstop, as well as their continual hard work and enthusiasm keeping members well informed via the monthly emails and also attending many of the events. He ended by saying that it had been a pleasure being associated with them both over the last 8 years. A personalised stained glass mirror, flowers wine and chocolate on behalf of all the members was presented to them (Link to photo attached). Murray again thanked everyone for their support over the years.

Sue and Jim organised the recent skittles evening which was well attended and Teresa was a very happy winner of the cup. Thank you both for organising such a good evening.

Thank you Stella for organising the Tradewinds lunch. As usual the food was excellent.

The Toby Christmas meal went well so thank you Teresa for organising it and thank you Jack and Trevor for the entertainment. Mo’s quiz went well although I must admit that our team didn’t do so well.

Thank you Sue for organising the Christmas party at the Barnstaple Hotel. Everyone had a good time.

The last event of the year was the Occombe farm visit. Thank you Jack, again everyone enjoyed themselves.

There is a January lunch this Thursday at the Red Deer in Crediton.

The Pitstop Breakfast Meeting will be held this Sunday. There will be a run, weather permitting.

The next Monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday 11th February.

Sue has decided to step down as event co-ordinator so a huge thank you from us all for her hard work.

The diary is now on the front page of the website and the on-line event form has been reinstated. Thank you Neville. Please check the website regularly as it is our main form of communication between meetings.

Regent Street Motor Show 2020 on 31st October

The MX-5 Owners Club has been invited to exhibit at this year's Regent Street Motor Show.

The event is to be held on Regents Street in Central London and attracts nearly half a million visitors on a single day! The whole of Regents Street from Oxford Circus to Piccadilly Circus will be closed to traffic for one day to showcase 125 years of Motoring with exhibits and displays from the veteran era through to modern cars.

With the MX-5 notching up 30 years on the UK roads this year 10 cars will be on display to span the history of the MX-5 also as part of recognising 100 years of Mazda.

If anyone would like to exhibit their car at the show they would need to email a picture of their car and details to regentstreet@mx5oc.co.uk. It will be an early start to be in Central London and cars need to remain on display until 4-5pm (further details will come from the organisers in due course). It would perhaps be a good excuse for a weekend break to London.

Kevin sends his apologies. Graham and Eddie White who now live in France ask to be remembered to you all and pass on their good wishes for the New Year.

Kevin also asked us to mention that MK3 owners need to keep an eye on their oil levels. There have been at least 3 recent instances of seized engines.

The New Soft Top Hardtop Storage Binders have arrived and can now be found online on the Club shop, https://store.mx5oc.co.uk/soft-top-hardtop-storage-binder-72-p.asp The price is inclusive of postage and a multi-buy discount is also available on a purchase of 2 Binders (saving £1.50 per binder).

The Cotehele Daffodil festival runs from 14th to 22nd March so a run to Cotehele will be organised on Sunday 15th March after Pitstop.

Thanks for all your messages of support and hopefully we can look forward to a busy diary this year.
